Labels Plus 61 Realising there were other parts of the world that held attraction for him and his family, Sean set out from the UK nine years ago, after a life working in the prime packaging sector. “Prior to Kurz, I had been working in New Zealand for a number packaging companies, servicing the food and wine industries, assisting some iconic brands, which has given me a great insight and overview into the Kiwi market place,” explained Sean. He said his UK background has been in the print and packaging sector for most of his life, but since being in New Zealand, he’d been mostly involved in packaging for the food and wine industries. Asked what was the appeal of New Zealand when he could have immigrated to Canada or Australia, Sean said the choice was made after considering a number of things, including great beaches, nice people, and having cities that were not too large. “Essentially, it was a lifestyle consideration,” he said. Sean said part of his role with Kurz is exploring how he can help Kurz customers add value to a brand owner’s labelling and packaging offer. “I’ll be looking at that part of the market which seeks added value, and which is normally premium products and brands, which I find extremely interesting. It is our role to help our customers make their customer’s brand stand out.” Commenting on the current New Zealand label and packaging Industry, Sean said he thought NZ has real strengths particularly when it came to exports. “The honey industry is a great example. It is an exciting industry at the moment, in terms of exporting high UMF honey, and it’s a market where New Zealand is very active. The wine industry is another great industry for us, with a significant local and export industry. I think export is the focus for growth in the NZ economy and particularly the added-value products, which I have seen develop in the time I have been here, so it’s an exciting area to be involved in.” Asked if Sean could list the advantages he saw for a converter choosing Kurz, he said: “widest product range stocked in New Zealand, technical leadership in foils and embellishment, consistent quality of our products and the unique advantage of selling our own manufactured products. If it’s Kurz, you know it works! “We are the market leader technically, with a really strong range of products which are of the highest quality. We are recognised in the market as the gold-standard, and when you deal with Kurz in New Zealand, you’re dealing with Kurz manufacturing and marketing worldwide. So, it’s not only the great technical support you get from us here in New Zealand, but we can also tap into the technical support and problem- solving expertise of Kurz experts across the globe.” He said Kurz has long-established slitting and spooling production and a well-stocked warehouse in Auckland to service their New Zealand customers’ requirements for the widest range of decorative and functional foils and accessories, to ensure they always get what they need, when they need it. In his non-Kurz life, Sean is married with two teenage sons and a daughter who enjoy the new country, and on weekends love to tour the outdoors. “Since joining the company I have spent my time to date, meeting some of our customers and getting to know their needs, because our approach is all about partnering. I will be part of the Kurz team at the PacPrint stand and I look forward to meeting everyone and showing off some of our exciting new Kurz developments. We’ll be promoting our graphic foils, and introducing and promoting our digital metal. We will also have a focus on brand enhancement, including our holographic anti-counterfeiting solutions.” Sean can be contacted on firstname.lastname@example.org .
