Labels Plus 1 From the editor PacPrint2017 was successful for everybody! The wash-up from this year’s PacPrint has confirmed that there is a renewed confidence in both machinery companies selling to the industry, and printers and converters who are starting to think about up-dating their kit. It is believed that business transacted on the floor of the exhibition will reach $AU20 million. A spokesman said that while visitor numbers were down on the 2013 show - caused they believe, by the consolidation of industry over the past four years - daily numbers were comparable to the previous exhibition. More than 150 exhibitors showed-off their latest and greatest and digital technology continues to be the way of the future. Continuing this theme, our lead story this issue is on the new Konica Minolta print system that has been purchased by Sydney-based printer Foxcil. Mark Andy had their Digital One on display for the very first time in the Southern Hemisphere at PacPrint, and Currie Group was a stand-out once again, with one of the largest stands at the show. They were at the centre of a host of activity as printers grazed the huge number of new machines that this very successful distributor had across printing and finishing solutions. Hewlett-Packard was again one of the star exhibitors and well represented by a small army of technical experts explaining the latest to come out of HP’s R&D department. But that all-important “air of confidence” extends well beyond the halls at “Jeff’s Shed” Melbourne. In this edition we have two user stories - both from Queensland - which highlight the growing success of OMET with label printers – another Currie Group success. We also do a recap on the Xeikon Cafe held in Europe a little while ago, look at some of the Xeikon Partners and how they fit into the Xeikon world. This special Xeikon event has grown in importance to the label industry over the years, and sales of the Xeikon range of label printers around the world has jumped in numbers. Label printers and those wanting to get into the label market through digital printers, are checking out different platforms of production that are now flooding onto the label machinery market. Kurz was another PacPrint exhibitor that literally had a “dazzling array” of new products ready to enhance the most ordinary of wine labels. But good readers, the biggest, busiest, mind-numbing, label show that only occurs every two years is heading your way at 500mpm. Yes, Labelexpo 2017 is again being held in Brussels, and again, will be the biggest show dedicated to the fast-growing, ever-changing label industry. Exhibitors from every country will be there and so too should you! With their theme this year being: “Gain An Unfair Advantage” all stands will be stocked with everything new. Tens of thousands of printers, designers, production, and big brand specialists, will zero in for the four days as they work their way through the nine packed halls. So make sure you’re on the watch for the next issue of “Labels Plus” as we preview what you need to see when you trek off to Labelexpo at the end of September. Till next time, Roger Coles – Editor & Publisher In this issue Cover Story 2 Roger Kirwan Labelling’s go-to guru. We talk to Foxcil's Managing Director about printing and the new bizhub PRESS C71cf.
