Overall, the quality of entries was ver y good, with judges having to be ex tra critical to identify the best entries from other ver y good entries. In the flexibles division, the four- colour process section made up the bulk of the entries with 89%. The remaining entries were Line and Tone. In the labels division, the digital section was the largest single category with 41% of entries, then came flexo with 32% followed by offset and combination with 12% respec tively. Overall, the judges handed out a total of 18 Gold awards, 11 Silver and 2 Best in Show. The judging panel this year was: • Jeff Morris – Elna • T imm Bradshaw – Studio Labels • Richard Lau – DIC • Chris Bodger – Aldus-Tronics • Iain Kennedy – Rossini • Les Jordan – DIC • Brad Bartlett – Kirk Group • Yousef Wahib – Amcor Flexibles • Bob James. Once again it was a very intense day’s work, with every aspect of the entries being scrutinised to the finest detail. Sometimes it can become tense, with robust discussion and disagreement, but always by the end of the day, all judges have reached a satisfactor y agreement. The FPLMA is always grateful for the time and effort these industry specialists give to judging, especially those who have travelled interstate to be present. We made ver y welcome our first- time judge Yousef Wahib from Amcor Flexibles at Moorabbin. Yousef had a first-hand experience of the close concentration on detail and sometimes contested judgement throughout the day, and came out smiling. We look forward to next year ’s awards. I’d like to once again offer a special thanks to my overworked and definitely underpaid wife and business par tner Olga, who ensured ever y thing on the day was kept in order and recorded. CHAIRMAN OF JUDGING PANEL – ANDREW MAXWELL This year there was a 7% increase in entries for the FPLMA Print Awards with Narrow and Wide Web Flexo contributing 27 entries (up from 22 in 2017) and 81 entries from the label sector (up from 79 in 2017).
